How To Avoid Skin Cancer

how to avoid skin cancerSkin cancer, as the name suggest, is a cancerous condition of skin that one of the most common form of cancer in the United States. There are twice as many skin cancers in our population today as there were 20 years ago. Skin cancer is not as harmful as the other types of cancers. Skin cancer generally develops in the epidermis, the outermost layer of skin, so a tumor is usually clearly visible. The cancerous cells usually affect the other normal cells and impair the normal functioning of the organs. Ultraviolet (UV) radiation is the single most important cause of skin cancer, especially when the overexposure resulted in sunburn and blistering. People who live in areas that get high levels of UV radiation from the sun are more likely to get skin cancer. In the United States, for example, skin cancer is more common in Texas than it is in Minnesota, where the sun is not as strong.

The two most common kinds of skin cancer are basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. Basal cell carcinomas and most squamous cell carcinomas are slow growing and highly treatable, especially if found early. Melanoma is the most serious form of skin cancer, which begins in the melanocytes in the skin and is usually seen as a pigmented lesion with an irregular shape in the skin. This is definitely the most potentially harmful cancer as it can spread to various different areas within the body. Melanoma occurs rarely and the rate of occurrence of BCC and SCC is 90% of the total cancers.

Till today, no one knows the exact symptoms that can be noticed before the occurance of skin cancer, but factors like hereditary, earlier skin cancers can cause cancer easily. One should avoid the sun burns or apply ointments that protect you from the harmful radiations of the sun.
